President’s BIO

Ken Melvin, P.E.

Ken Melvin is a California State licensed civil engineer (Lic. No. 59105), licensed general contractor (Lic. No. 1086729) and a State Qualified SWPPP Designer (QSD C59105). Ken has an extensive background in land development, home building and entitlements in the Central and Southern California markets spanning 30 years. Ken carries a BS in civil engineering from the University of the Pacific and a master’s in business administration from California State University, San Marcos. Ken spent the first 13 years of his professional career practicing civil engineering design on some of the largest land development projects in Southern California where he managed entitlement and design efforts for NV5, an ENR (Engineering News Record) top 500 engineering firm and Rick Engineering, one of the largest civil engineering consulting firms in San Diego County. 

Beyond entitlements and land development design, Ken has actively managed and overseen the management of land development and home building projects from inception through build out for top 5 U.S. home builders over the last 17-years. Most recently Ken was the Los Angeles / Ventura division president for Lennar, the nation’s largest home builder, overseeing development and home building operations from Bakersfield to Los Angeles. Ken carries extensive experience in project underwriting, proforma analysis, due diligence, land acquisitions, contract negotiations, planning, financing, entitlement processing, product and specification development, trade negotiations, management of project budgets, consultants, schedules, and business planning. Ken has successfully provided builder representation at public hearings, community outreach events and on legal issues utilizing both his professional engineering background as well as development experience.

Ken is a board member at HomeAid Los Angeles, a homeless advocacy nonprofit, and is the past board vice president for the LA/Ventura Building Industry Association (BIA). Ken has been a featured presenter at the BIA symposium on proposed new State MS4 permit language, the BIA housing and market forecast, and the Ventura County Economic Development Association “Achieving Attainable Housing in Ventura, Solana Heights Case Study” presentation.
